Accident damage makes a vehicle harder to price, not impossible to sell. With Fleet Desk you inspect the car yourself, report exactly what is damaged and receive an indicative desktop valuation before you decide anything.
The valuation is indicative until we inspect the vehicle in person. It is set against verified market data and the damage you report, so the more accurately you record the damage, the closer the range will be to what a physical inspection confirms.
What you need
Self-inspection is free and takes about 15 minutes. Have these ready:
- the registration number or VIN, and the current mileage
- eight photos: all four sides, the interior, the odometer, the VIN plate and the damage
Before sale, the vehicle's registration paperwork is verified and held securely. [TBC: confirm the full list of documents required, including what is needed if the vehicle is still financed or an insurance claim is open.]
Photographing the damage
Take the photos in daylight. For each damaged area, take one photo that shows the whole panel and one close-up. Include anything you are unsure about, such as warning lights on the dashboard or fluid under the vehicle. Damage that only appears at the physical inspection changes the valuation, so it is better reported now.
What happens after you consign
Nothing is listed until you agree the reserve. Once you do, the vehicle moves through the same eight recorded stages as every other vehicle:
- Inspect. The vehicle's condition, photographs and mileage are recorded.
- Validate. Registration and licensing details are checked against official records and the vehicle itself.
- Appraise. A valuation is produced from verified market data and the condition record.
- Mandate. A reserve is agreed with you and confirmed before anything else happens.
- Secure documents. The registration paperwork is verified and held securely.
- Stock in. The vehicle is formally accepted into the disposal process.
- Sell. The vehicle is sold through a vetted auction partner.
- Settle. Proceeds are reconciled and paid out through the disposing partner. No funds are held on the platform.
